The Double Diamond River Ranch is a working cattle ranch (so always close the gates!) with an intense focus on fish and wildlife habitat. The Double Diamond is managed as a trophy fishery and the biomass of fathead minnows, crayfish, and suckers grow meat eating toads. At the Double Diamond you realistically can catch the trout of a lifetime in a wild/natural ranch environment.
The Double Diamond offers some of the most diversified waters on the western slope. At the DDRR you will find a private, 1/2 mile section of the Uncompahgre River, five private creeks including the Big Somo creek and two private lakes. These waters are managed in combination to make a private trophy fishery that can be your private water escape for the day. Be it still water, creeks or on the Uncompahgre River these private waters contain surprises that will bring memories for a lifetime.

Responsibility and Liability: Fishing is an adventure sport that involves risk. We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged articles or personal injury. We are fully bonded, insured and licensed, but you participate at your own risk and must sign a waiver of liability for each trip. Safety is our number one priority at Montrose Anglers, as such drugs or alcohol are not permitted on any of our fly-fishing trips. All trips go out rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the guide. If you have any questions please call the shop at 970-249-0408 or email us at info@MontroseAnglers.com. In the event that a trip is canceled, we will reschedule the trip for a future date.
All trip participants 16 years of age and older are always required to carry a valid Colorado fishing license with them while fishing. We strongly suggest our guests to purchase their license online prior to the trip in order to save time and get on the river sooner. You can purchase them online through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website at https://www.cpwshop.com/licensing.page . Cost of license is not included in trip prices. NOTE: These are private waters and a license is not needed on this property, but if your trip includes any public water you will need a license.
Wonderful experience! Tadd is an excellent guide. Getting into the sport was a bit intimidating at first -- there are so many details to the art of fly fishing. However, Nolan and Tadd made it simple and adventurous. Highly recommend!
The guys in the shop really helped me out as I started out fly fishing. From recommending flies to tips and tricks when I explain some hardships. They have put me on several fish.
I met Tadd fishing on the Uncompahgre River and he taught me practically everything I need to know about trout fishing! I ended up going to the fly shop the next day and he helped me get set up with an awesome fly rod set up! If I were to ever do a guided trip, I would definitely go here! Awesome people and they know what they’re doing! Thanks again!

Tough question with no right or wrong answer. Guiding is a service industry and as such 20% is standard with better service more and bad service less. It’s fine to tip in cash or use your credit card at the end of the day. Please remember a tip is a good part of a guide’s earnings, but never feel you have to tip. Any guide knows a good tip is earned and not a given for showing up. If you have any problems with your guide or our services don't hesitate call me at 970-249-0408 or email me at info@MontroseAnglers.com.
There is a 50% deposit required on all trips to secure the dates you want. The final 50% will be charged at the completion of your trip. No refunds are guaranteed 2 weeks prior to your trip. Our guides and company work hard to book dates and it can be costly to cancel after denying other customers. If this makes you nervous, we recommend you purchase trip insurance for your peace of mind. Although this is our policy we will do everything we can to help rebook you if your plans unexpectedly change. All trips go out rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the guide. As safety is our number one priority at Montrose Anglers, no drugs or alcohol will be permitted on any of our fly fishing trips.
Most trips start and end at the shop at 309 E. Main St. in the Downtown Mercantile Building at the northeast corner of Townsend and Main. As all fly fishing trips are custom, start and end times may vary. Let us know what we can do to accommodate your schedule.
Trip includes a professional guide, transportation from the shop to the water and back, sandwich style lunch with drinks on full day trips (preference order can be made in advance), Rod and reel, flies, tippet, leaders and all terminal tackle for the day. You can expect your guide to be knowledgeable and willing to share and teach what they know. Waders, boots, and other gear are available for rent, but not included in the trip price. A good guide can make a poor day memorable and a bad guide can ruin a great fishing day. Let us know immediately if you have a problem with your guide, or at info@MontroseAnglers.com . Also not included are fishing licenses and guide gratuities.
The most important question to start with is what can we do for you? Tell your guide if you are interested in entomology, casting techniques, reading water, going for big fish or numbers. Do you want to fish hard or take a relaxing day on the water? Do you want to learn the different fly patterns and what they represent or just catch fish? The more you communicate before you get to the water the better we can be for you on the water. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Everyone has different goals on the water. The more we can communicate, the more we can help you reach yours.
