Begining at the confluence of the North Fork of the Gunnison there are two sections. The North Fork to Smith Fork which goes up into the NCA, and the lower section, the confluence down to Austin.
Starting high up into the Cimarron Mountains the East, Middle, and West Forks flow into Silver Jack reservoir. Out of Silver Jack is the Big Cimarron flowing into Morrow Point Reservoir of the Gunnison.
The Montrose town run of the Uncompahgre is a very fun and productive section of river. This stretch of river holds nice healthy Browns and Rainbows.
The East Portal stretch of the Gunnison River is located within the Black Canyon National Park outside of Montrose, CO. This stretch of river is a Gold Medal Waters and is home to over 8,000 trout per mile.
The Lake Fork of the Gunnison is a pristine freestone river that runs through the town of Lake City, CO and the Curecanti National Recreation Area until it finally flows into Blue Mesa Reservoir. This river provides ample oppurtunities to catch wild trout in some of the most scenic areas in the region.
The Mighty Gunnison begins at the merging of the East and Taylor Rivers near Almont. This incredible river then flows down thru the city of Gunnison until it dumps into the Blue Mesa Reservoir.
The San Miguel River begins in the San Juan Mountains above Telluride, Colorado and ends at the confluence with the Dolores River 72 miles downstream.
